Obituary

WEICH, Diane Marie

In loving memory of Diane Marie WEICH (nee Verstrepen), born July 28,1932 in Inverness, Nova Scotia and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 87.

Diane will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Ron; five children, Elaine (Wayne), Allan (Laurie), Greg (Merryanne), Cheryl, and Darren (Cindra); seven grandchildren, Christina, Stacie (Jonas), Christopher (Desiree), Jonathan (Anna), Jennifer (Shaun), Jordan (Li), and Joshua; eleven great-grandchildren, Brandon, Breanna, Shayla, Greyr, Taylor, Dysen, Ayden, Harmony, Areya, Dominic and Oliver as well as a large extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Victor (1964) and Denise (1987); sister, Leonie (2002) and brother, Victor (2018).

In 1946, Diane moved with her parents and younger brother to Rosedale, Alberta, where she met her future husband Reinhardt (Ron) Weich. They were married on April 28, 1951, in Drumheller, Alberta.
After moving around Alberta in the early years Diane and family settled in Calgary until 1971. They then moved with the two youngest sons to Three Hills, Alberta and resided there for the next forty years. In 2013 Diane and Ron moved to Prince of Peace Lutheran Community (Calgary) where she lived out the rest of her days.

When she took up residence at Prince of Peace, Diane participated in many events and activities, made friends easily, and was considered a social butterfly as she was always eager to meet and greet any new residents. She was fondly known as "Lady Di" which was originally given by the Huxley Colony that delivered their eggs in Three Hills and was carried on at Prince of Peace.

Committed to her faith, Diane was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church (Calgary) and Faith Lutheran Church (Sundre). She was a long time member of the Canadian Royal Purple Chapter (Three Hills) volunteering within the community. Many hours and summers were spent volunteering at Pioneer Acres Museum in Irricana.

Diane loved to travel with family and friends. Some of her favorite destinations were Hawaii, Barbados and winters in Arizona. Diane made several trips across Canada and the United States to the Maritimes stopping to visit family and friends along the way.

Diane's life was centered around her family and extended family, making many happy memories with children, grandchildren, and in later years, great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.

The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Prince of Peace for their compassionate care and to all the special residents who made her part of the Prince of Peace family.

Due to provincial health restrictions, a private family service will be held with a Celebration of Diane’s Life to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Diane directly to a charity of your choice. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Diane, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
