Derrick Gilbertson passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the age of 32. His humour, his empathetic nature, and his love for learning will be missed by all who knew him.
Derrick was born in Vancouver and was able to experience diverse cultures through his time in Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Ecuador. Derrick moved to Calgary in 2006, along with his family. He attended Ambrose University College where he met the love of his life at the age of 18. He cared deeply for those on the margins and had a passion for animal welfare—both of which were evident in how he lived his life. He was fiercely loved and is remembered by his family: his wife Rebecca, his parents Ric and Ruth-Anne, sister Karissa, his fur-babies Chloe and Ryder, and all of his extended family and close friends.
Join us for a Celebration of Life to be held at RockPointe Church (Bearspaw Campus: 255024 Lochend Rd, Calgary, AB) at 1:30pm on Thursday, March 12, 2020. In memory of Derrick, the dress code will be casual attire. Plaid, Jeans and Soccer Jerseys are encouraged, however please wear what you are most comfortable in.
To honour Derrick's life, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Calgary Humane Society or the Distress Centre Calgary.
