Derek Graham Whyte died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Monday, June 1, 2020 at the age of 84.
Derek was a man ahead of his time. He was a born adventurer. He moved from Tain, Scotland to Canada when he was just 19. He met and married his equally adventurous wife with whom he shared a life full of unforgettable memories that spanned the globe. He loved his garden and spent hours and hours perfecting it. His art and creative nature were evident in every aspect of his life, from the colour of the paint on the walls, to the colour of his socks. He loved the outrageous and audacious. He had a loud, hearty laugh, and was always up for a good party. He was one of a kind.
Derek is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karen; their four children, Katherine (Harry), Lesley (Dan), Robin (Andrew) and Colin (Paula); eight grandchildren, Nicolas (Jennifer), Derek, Noah, Kevin (Taryn), Austin, Samantha, Jack (Safara), Dylan (Leila) and Aidan; one great granddaughter, Sofia, as well as his beloved brother, Gerald and his wife, Dianne. Derek will also be missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and many, many friends here in Calgary, and around the world.
