It is with great sadness that our family announces the unexpected passing of Derek Bruce Ponton. Derek passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019 in the Foothills Medical Centre, Intensive Care Unit surrounded by his loved ones.
Derek was born in Calgary on August 16, 1985 to Joanne and Bruce Ponton. Derek was raised and went to school in Calgary. He was a kind and gentle young man who loved animals, gaming, listening to music, writing, movies and long walks. He loved the outdoors, especially camping with his brother Trevor Ponton. Derek will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Derek is survived by his mother, Joanne Ponton (Terry Scott); father, Bruce Ponton (Marilyn); brother Trevor Ponton (Julie Staples); nephew, Zachary; grandparent; Grace Ricketts; aunt Christine Jordan; uncle Dana Jordan; uncle Blair Ponton (Corrine); cousins; Jacob and Lance; aunt Joanne Ponton; cousins Chase and Jade; great aunt Emily Carroll; 2nd cousins Leanne Murray and Scott Murray
Our family is forever grateful to the caring, compassionate and professional staff of the Foothills Medical Centre, Intensive Care Unit who lovingly and graciously took care of Derek during his final hours.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Choice Memorial located at 105-4715 13 St NE, Calgary AB
