Obituary for Dean James Chaput
Dean James Anthony Chaput
October 10, 1970 – March 19, 2022
After a lifelong battle with cancer, Dean passed away peacefully on March 19, 2022 surrounded by his family. His journey has been filled with family, friends, fun, laughter and lasted much longer than most expected. Even though we had many unpromised bonus years, the journey has been cut far too short.
If one were to describe Dean, it would be a rare gem with a kind soul and a heart as big as his smile. He believed that each day was a gift and he believed one should give more than they take. Dean embodied the best traits of both his parents and anyone that knew him, loved him and his beautiful spirit. Tina will miss Dean and their many adventures, including their weekly trips to “the Lake”. His Dad has been waiting patiently since 2008 for Dean’s arrival and we imagine that he was met with open arms. Dean was always up for a road trip and often said “I’m like an American Express Card … don’t leave home without me.”
His career began at Canadian Hunter and continued through many changes and mergers until finally retiring at Connoco Phillips. In his free time, you could find Dean skiing, golfing, travelling, reading and a few times trying to explain how he got the dent in his car. Anytime we hear an Elton John song it will be just another reminder of Dean and the joy music brought him, and the joy he brought all of us.
Dean was always the first to volunteer, for anything, but specifically enjoyed his time volunteering at Renfrew Educational Services and the Gray Family YMCA. Dean would go out of his way to support, change or brighten someone’s day. Some of his favourite annual events were Light the Night Walk, Terry Fox Walk and Run for Betty.
We can not express our gratitude to the staff at Foothills Hospital Unit 111 and ICU C Team for the care and attention they gave to Dean. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to The Canadian Cancer Society or Renfrew Educational Services.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at Tina’s home on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 between 1:00 and 4:30 pm. Contact the family if you require an address.
