Obituary for David Neustaeter

In profound sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Dave Neustaeter. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Dave departed this world on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, succumbing to a brief yet aggressive battle with cancer.

Dave's life was a tapestry woven with love, commitment, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Born on July 21, 1945, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, to John and Sarah, he grew up on a farm in Chortitz, Saskatchewan. It was there that he married his beloved Nettie Unrau, sharing 58 years of unwavering companionship.

For nearly two decades, Dave lent his skills to the autobody industry, but his true calling lay in entrepreneurship. Whether delving into Real Estate or Hospitality, Tax Accounting or professional driving he embraced every endeavor with passion and dedication. In the 1970s in Manitoba, he selflessly served as a volunteer firefighter, managing a baseball club, and overseeing a community park that included a pool and ball diamonds. His commitment to enhancing communal spaces and fostering recreational opportunities endeared him to all who benefited from his tireless efforts.

His retirement in 2006 marked the beginning of a new chapter, where he immersed himself in the realm of sports, dedicating valuable years to serving on the Zone 2 Alberta 55 plus board.

Dave, while not tethered to any religious affiliation, was a deep thinker, a theologian at heart, driven by a profound curiosity about the spiritual dimensions of existence. A lifelong learner, he earned numerous degrees and diplomas in metaphysics, reflexology, massage, Qi Gong, and an array of other subjects. His extensive library stood as a testament to his insatiable appetite for knowledge.

Dave leaves behind a legacy of love and wisdom cherished by his surviving wife, Nettie; son, Eldon (Shannon); as well as four grandchildren, Erin, Lyndsay, Angie (Bryce), and Laura; and his five great-grandchildren, Calvin, Aubree, Adrianna, Anderson, and Jasper. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Loretta; grandson, Jordan; and six siblings, Helen, Sarah, Tina, John, Bill, and Cornelius.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Dave’s memory to Alberta 55, continuing Dave's legacy of contributing to the community he held dear.

A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br# 105 Olds (5241 46 Street, Olds, AB).
