David Meyers
August 4th, 1943 - Sunday, August 25th, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Edmond Meyers of Calgary, AB on August 25, 2019 at the age of 76 years.
David was born on August 4, 1943 in Annaheim, Saskatchewan. He grew up on a humble farm with his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents John and Hilda Meyer; his brothers, Melvin, Richard and Murray and his sisters, Mildred (Gerry) Raskob, Viola (Ben) Wourms and Adeline.
David was a proud and professional truck driver for Gulf Oil and Petro Canada-Tanker Division. He made many great memories and friends even taking part in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympic Games. He was also known for being the friendliest shuttle driver for CMP; Colorworks and Your Auto Paint Shop before he decided to retire. He left his positive mark on everyone he met.
He enjoyed spending his time making music, picking his steel guitar, good ole family fishing trips and visiting his loved ones. He was the life of the party, always enjoyed a good heated discussion and he was one you could always depend on for an honest opinion. He loved heading down the highway with his favorite travel partner, Florence and just trucking along enjoying wherever the road takes them. He married Florence Redelback on April 5, 1971 and together they raised their family through all the twists and turns of life. He was a committed father and a wonderful caring grandfather and treasured every moment he spent with his grandchildren.
David was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2001 and was a bold and courageous survivor, we all witnessed a softer side of him from that experience. He became an inspiration for many and learned to make his moments count. People were drawn to his advice, strength and meaningful conversation. In October of 2018, he suffered a stroke that left us all feeling hopeless. He fought really hard to win this battle. We all supported and helped him through long hospital stays and months of rehabilitation and home care.
Nobody will miss him more than his loving wife of 48 years, she was a patient, caring and gentle caregiver to him over the past year and gave everything in her to help him recover and make the most of his last months. He will remember her love and sacrifice forever. He will be missed every day by his children and grandchildren; James (Angela) Darago, his children Riley, Dylan & Kori; Laura (Derek) Hudson, their children Kennedy & Gage; Trevor (Christina) Meyers.
He will be missed during happy hour and visits with his special nephews and nieces, Clifford (Elaine) Raskob and Val (Brian) Curtis who were such important supporters throughout his recovery. He is also survived by his brother Randy and his sisters Marge Doepker and Leona (Maurice) Ronspies as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and so many other loving family members from both sides of our extended family.
We invite all who loved him to celebrate his life together with his family on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Parkridge Estates Community Hall at 222 Burroughs Circle NE; Calgary, AB; for an open house between 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
We would also like to thank the staff at the Peter Lougheed, Rockyview General and South Health Campus Hospitals for taking such good care of him and our family throughout this journey.
