Obituary for Dave Hagerty
With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dave Hagerty, on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at the age of 61. He will be welcomed in the afterlife by his parents, Mike and Marg, whom he adored. Dave leaves behind his four children, Liam (Ania), Meaghan (Carson), Sheehan (Emily), and Brennan (Callum), as well as his long-time partner, friend and mother of his children, Juanita. He also leaves his four brothers, Brian, Greg (Claudine), Mike, and Tim (Clara), many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends who cared deeply for him, and his new granddaughter Sawyer.
After growing up in Kilbride, Newfoundland, Dave spent most of his adult life in Calgary and Kamloops, but the pride in his Newfie roots never dulled. Dave navigated many things in his life - some with grace and celebration and others with pure grit. The only thing he loved more than the Habs was his family, and he always seemed most content when he was rocking out, devouring a book (or 3) or sparking a spirited debate with one of his oh-so-strong opinions. He was hardheaded but gentle hearted. He was a brilliant creative writer, and he was always first to be goofy if it meant putting a smile on someone’s face. He will be missed dearly by many pockets of people, and the image of him laughing, that sparkle in his eyes and shoulders bouncing with each chuckle, will live in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alpha House in Calgary and/or a kind gesture can be made to someone who is struggling.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 3:30 pm at Holy Family Parish (2797 Sunset Drive, Kamloops), with an Open-House Celebration of Dave’s Life at Juanita’s house from 5:00 pm onward.
