Darlene Eva Rider
March 1st, 1953 – September 26th, 2019

We are saddened to announce the passing of Darlene Eva Rider, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Darlene was a beloved wife to Paul; mother/mother-in-law to James (Debbie), Melanie (Jeff) and Stephen (Beth); and Grandmother to Anna, Theo, and Odin.

Darlene will be lovingly remembered and missed by family and friends that stretch from the east to the west coasts of Canada.

She courageously battled both Huntington disease and breast cancer for many years and eventually succumbed to pneumonia, a common complication of HD.

We want to acknowledge the wonderful care and support she received from the staff at the Vernon Fanning Centre in Calgary, her doctor Annie Yau, and her Oncologists Dr. Sasha Lupichuk and Dr. Jeff Cao.

At Darlene’s request there will be no service, and in lieu of cards and flowers, donations can be made to The Huntington Society of Canada.

It was a beautiful day in Sarnia when I asked my friend, who was the great looking gal in the cords? He replied, the gal I’m about to marry! Time has gone from there to today. Darlene was not just Paul’s wife, she was our friend. When you needed a friend, she was there. Some would say, she was like a sister to me. Well she was more than a sister to me. She was my sounding board, my thoughts and yes she even supported my dreams over 37 years. She walk the happy roads with me and was always there for the sad walks as well. Some people show up in your life and it’s almost strange how they can read you. She could read me faster than anyone. I tried on occasion to let her think things were going one way but she would just look right thru me and say, really, is that the way it is? Unfortunately, I didn’t see her a lot in the last year. Some would say I was busy the true would say I was just scared. Well Ms. D, I will think of you often. I know that you will continue to watch over your family and Paul even though your not with us. You may have gone on with out us but you will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the laughs, the family and even the tears. Love you always, Kevin
