Obituary for Daniel Michael Romanko

Daniel Michael Romanko
August 23, 1981 - Sunday, May 31, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Romanko (Romo) announces his passing on Sunday May 31, 2020. Daniel will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his parents Carol and Barry; two children Ryder and Harper and their mother Michelle; sister Carmen and brother-in-law Mat Derksen; nephews Carter and Owen; grandmother Eleanor and many other loving family members and friends.

Daniel to his parents, Dan or Romo to his friends or business associates was born August 23, 1981 in Edmonton. He spent most of his youth in the St.Paul, Alberta area. A family move to Spirit River resulted in him graduating from High school in Spirit River in 1999. Throughout his youth he had a passion for the sports of hockey, baseball, golf and badminton. His skills and competitive nature provided him the opportunity to contribute to the success of many teams of which he was a part.

After high school he entered the education program at Grande Prairie College, but didn’t find this career path to his liking. At this time he played goal for the Grande Prairie Junior B Wheelers. He continued his passion for golf by working at Spirit River and Grande Prairie area golf courses. A move to Jasper and an enrollment in the Grant MacEwan Golf Management Program coincided with Dan working at the Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course for 2 seasons.

In 2004/05 Dan graduated from the Golf Management Program to pursue his golf career. He started his career as an associate professional at the Earl Grey Golf Club in Calgary where he worked for 5 years. Dan achieved his full PGA Professional Golf Accreditation in 2007.

Dan made a successful career change to sales in the oil and gas Industry where he worked for 12 years. His sales approach was all about customer service, being a “straight shooter” and relationship building. He was very appreciative and proud of the opportunity Pacific Tubulars provided him to be a “shareholder” in the company. To him being an “owner” illustrated a relationship beyond employment and reinforced his abilities in the business.

In 2011 he married Michelle Connelly and they have 2 children - Ryder(7) and Harper(5). He loved being a Dad and was so proud of his kids.

Dan’s strong work ethic, competitive and social nature, combined with his strengths of building solid business relationships enabled him to develop a wide circle of friends and business colleagues in the oil and gas and golf industries. Family, friends and business associates describe him as fun loving, generous and loyal. A person always willing to lend a hand if needed. Many remember Dan as a natural creator and teller of stories with an ability to relate to people of all ages.

The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 66 at South Health Campus for their care and compassion.

Cremation has taken place and due to Covid 19 limitations, a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in memory of Daniel to Kidsport or Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
