Obituary for Dalys Wesley Brooks

Dalys Wesley Brooks
April 10, 1981 - December 26, 2023

Dalys was born on April 10th, 1981, in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. He was a healthy 8lbs, 6 and a 1/3rd ounces.

He spent the majority of time living with his mom, occasionally living with his dad and his aunt. When mom moved to Calgary in 1994, Dalys followed and has lived here ever since. In 2004, Dalys welcomed his first son into the world, Austin Leppke Brooks followed by Joshua Andrusco in 2011 and then Chloe O'Brien-Martin in 2013.

Dalys had a heart and soul bigger than life, a gentle spirit who wouldn't hurt a fly. He had a wonderful relationship with his younger brother, Andrew, those boys had each other's backs at all times and they were hilarious together those two. Never a dull moment when the boys were together, losing his brother in March 2017 devastated Dalys to no end. That was a turning point in Dalys' life as his addiction to alcohol took a turn for the worse, complicated with seizures, falls and ultimately brain damage because of those falls.

Dalys was moved into assisted living in the spring of 2022. We were working on getting him into long- term care as he continued to decline. I knew it would be a long process but was hopeful that it would give Dalys a more comfortable place where he would find care more suited to his needs. He passed peacefully on Boxing Day – Tuesday, December 26, 2023, around 12 hours after I visited him on Christmas Day.

He is survived by his mom, Barbara Diane Schultz; father, Bruce (Sherry) Brooks; step-parents, John Emerson and Debbie Emerson; his aunts, Lisa Dorosz (Bill Dorosz), Jody McCormick, Dawn McCormick (Darrell Woodcock); Dalys' children, Austin Leppke Brooks (Val Leppke), Joshua Andrusco (Mike and Carrie Andrusco) and Chloe O'Brien-Martin (Courtney O'Brien); as well as many friends that loved Dalys. He was predeceased by his brother, Andrew Emerson on March 20, 2017; his maternal grandmother, Lucy McCormick in April 1991; and his grandfather, John McCormick in 1998.

May you fly with the angels and your brother, Andrew.....RIP my boy, able to walk, run, fully whole again rather than the suffering you lived with here on this earth.

One of Dalys' favorite sayings was, KEEP SMILIN' ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
