Obituary for Daisy Caroline Goodrich (Copland)
GOODRICH, Daisy Caroline
July 29, 1936 Sundre – June 18, 2019 Calgary
Daisy Caroline passed away peacefully in hospice after a 3rd and final battle against cancer. Daisy is survived by daughter Debbie (Re’all) and son Bill (Diana). Her grandsons Paul (Christi); Mark (Michelle); Scott; Derek (Kelly); Steven (Amanda); Justin (Nikkie) and great grandchildren, Declan, Bentley, Connor and Lennon and her brother David. Daisy was pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years Harold (Sandy) and her sister Betty.
Born to immigrant parents David and Ivy Copland, Daisy was extremely proud of her Scottish and Irish heritage. One of Daisy’s favorite vacations was travelling to Scotland to meet family and see where her father was born.
Daisy was the youngest of three children and was born when the family lived in Sundre. The family moved to Acme where Daisy attended school. She moved to Ponoka to work as a telephone operator and this is where she met Sandy.
Sandy and Daisy were married in 1955 and started their family. They started out in Wetaskiwin and moved around throughout the years. Pincher Creek, Calgary, Armstrong, Vernon and High River were just some of the places they lived. In all these places their home was always open and inviting to share a meal or play cards or enjoy family and friends’ celebrations.
Daisy and Sandy were joined at the hip. They did everything together. Family vacations and celebrations, camping, bowling and golfing were just a few things that kept them busy. These traditions continue with their children, their grandchildren and even their great grandchildren!
Daisy worked at a variety of jobs over her life, from being a telephone operator, a waitress, a store clerk, then as a receptionist at several Doctors offices in Alberta and B.C. Then Daisy and Sandy opened a ceramic shop in Calgary and moved it to Vernon. When they moved back to Calgary, Daisy started her career in oil and gas where she worked until her retirement. Daisy was never afraid to try a new job she had never done before.
Well known for her love of entertaining, Daisy always loved having friends and family around to party, or to celebrate special occasions. You always knew you were welcome and going to have great fun and good food! She never turned down an invitation to enjoy getting together with family and friends. She taught all of us the joy of taking time to socialize.
Throughout Daisy’s life she made friends very easily. She had a way of talking to people and finding out so much of their lives and finding a connection with every person she met. As one special friend said you could see Daisy and pick up a conversation whether it was a month or a year later.
