Obituary for Colin John Sumner

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Colin John Sumner, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2022 after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Colin leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years, Linda; his two proud sons, David and Andrew (Karin); precious grandchildren, Brynn, Geordie, Owen and Sophie; his dear sister, Carol (Jack) Cole and family; Linda's brother, Morris (Carole) Scriven and family; as well as the Nylen and extended Johnson families.

Colin grew up in London, England, and worked in the oil and gas industry, which took him to several different countries before he settled in Calgary, Alberta. While he was an accomplished professional, his life truly blossomed in retirement, when he and Linda travelled extensively, particularly in Europe and winters spent in Hawaii and the southern US. When not working in his garden, reading, birdwatching, or building his stamp collection, he was always available to anyone who needed a helping hand. All the while, he shared a sense of humor that will be remembered and missed by his family and many friends. He left this world the same way he lived in it - bringing laughter to everyone around him.

A Celebration of Colin’s Life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the Tom Baker palliative care unit, and the incredible staff and volunteers at the Foothills Country Hospice, whose kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you offer a donation to Foothills Country Hospice at countryhospice.org, so that they can continue their truly impactful work.
