Christopher Ryan Ding
February 23, 1987 - October 9, 2020

After a courageous and long battle with depression, Christopher Ryan Ding, at the age of 33, died on Friday, October 9th, 2020. Chris will always and forever be remembered and loved by his wife, Carlee; parents, Rex and Esther Ding; sister, Angela (David) Loo; nieces and nephew, Kenzie, Madelyn, and Myles Loo; Grandma Toka Hall and his many other family members and friends.

Chris was born on February 23rd, 1987 in Edmonton, Alberta. After completing a degree in Criminal Justice, he briefly worked in Grande Cache and then spent the next 4 years working as a Transportation Investigator in Grande Prairie. Chris met his wife Carlee at the climbing gym in 2009. In 2015, Chris surprised Carlee by flying to South America to join her on her travels and proposed to her in the Sacred Valley of Peru. Together they moved in with their good friends, Dave and Michelle, before buying their own home in Calgary. They were married in the beautiful mountains near Canmore in 2017.

Chris had a love for cars, climbing, travelling, playing drums, and spending time with those he loved. He had an amazing skill for working on cars and his motorcycle and could fix anything that his wife deemed as broken. Chris had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He was always striving to make this world a better place. Rightfully, Chris was proud of being known as an incredible coach, teacher, and hard worker. He was kind, selfless, and extremely accomplished in his job with so many people who looked up to him.

Chris’ openness about depression has helped many others who were silently dealing with mental health disorders. Donations may be made in Chris’ honour to Canadian Mental Health Association.

A Celebration of Chris’ Life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 by invitation only (due to COVID restrictions). A video recording of the memorial service will be available after Saturday, October 24, 2020. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Chris, please visit
