Obituary for Cherylann Marie Brien

Cherylann Marie Brien

Cheryl passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021, surrounded by her two children, Brandon Brien and Ashley Brien, at Rosedale Hospice in Calgary, AB. Her passing came just one year after her cancer diagnosis.

Cheryl identified herself as a daughter, a sister, a friend, a cousin, and even an avid bingo player. But first and foremost, Cheryl’s most cherished role was being a mother to her two beloved children, Brandon and Ashley. Cheryl dedicated everything she had to her two children and she would have given the world to them. She will rest peacefully knowing that they will be forever loved and cared for by others in her absence. Nothing made Cheryl feel more fulfilled than when she heard others praising her children.

She was born and raised in Calgary, AB. Cheryl spent over two decades working in the bingo community, and upwards of four decades playing. Throughout her involvement in the community, whether she was simply playing the game or hard at work, Cheryl was able to touch the lives of countless bingo players, co-workers, and even made some of her closest friends there.

In all aspects of her life, Cheryl was well known for her profound kindness, her hospitable and selfless nature, and of course, her intense love of chocolate. But above all, she was known for her endless generosity. Over the course of her last year, it was heartwarming to see a lot of that generosity and hospitality being reciprocated back to her. Cheryl's friends took her and Ashley on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to visit the Cayman Islands. Cheryl had the chance to swim with stingrays there, and although she was terrified, she said it was one of the most memorable things she's ever done. She also had the opportunity to take a beautiful road trip through British Columbia and spent the summer with her cousin Jodi and her brother Jay. While she was there, she bravely decided to try zip-lining for the very first time and absolutely loved it. Cheryl was incredibly grateful for these experiences and she spoke very fondly of these memories that she will carry with her forever.

Although Cheryl was too young, she was able to spread a lifetime’s worth of love, positivity, and happiness around her.

Cheryl is survived by her children, Brandon and Ashley Brien; her parents, Anthony and Patricia Roach; and her brother, Jay Roach.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family plans to have a Memorial Service at a later date. To view and share photos, condolences, and memories of Cheryl, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
