Charles McLellan
October 31st, 1932 - Wednesday, December 4th, 2019

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Charles John McLellan (87) of Bragg Creek, Alberta in the early morning hours of December 4, 2019 in Calgary, Alberta.

Charles was born October 31, 1932 in Nacmine, Alberta to Margaret (Armstrong) McLellan and John Daniel McLellan. He grew up in Drumheller with his twin brother Leonard and eleven other siblings.

Charle’s first calling was to the priesthood in 1950’s where he attended St.Joseph Seminary in Edmonton. Charles was Ordained and served for 16 years as a Catholic Priest in Parishes around the Province of Alberta. He also attended The National Catechetical Centre at Corpus Christi College in London. While in the UK Charles did a 20 day study tour in Israel. He had a second calling, Charles was called to Wed Miss Mary Wheeler. They lived in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Fort McMurray, Alberta, and Bragg Creek, Alberta. Chuck and Mary had no children, however they were beloved by all of their nieces and nephews, acting as surrogate parents most of the time.

Chuck worked as a Builder/Renovation contractor, Developer/Organizer and retired in Bragg Creek, Alberta while still being very active in the community. Being an avid sports enthusiast he loved hockey, baseball, swimming and retiring to tennis. One major development project of Chucks were the tennis courts in Bragg Creek. He was a wonderful tennis instructor, holding tennis camps every year for the youth of the community. Charles was a competitor, he has to his credit numerous medals won for tennis at the seniors games held at provincial and national levels.

Charles lived his life well, he enjoyed being around family and friends. He was the last of his immediate family to pass. He is survived by his sisters in law Leona McLellan, Shirley McLellan, Maxine McLellan, and Joyce McLellan, brothers in law Andy Janisko, Tom Fletcher, Rick Thomsen, and Bob Trentham, and by his many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and John Daniel, and siblings Dorothy, Isabel, Cyril, Frank, Mary, Pat, Teresa, Gregory, Anthony, Leonard, John, and Cathy. It was Chucks wish to be cremated, which took place at Choice Memorial in Calgary.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Bridgeland SDA Community Church (48 - 12 Street N.E. Calgary, Alberta) with Chuck's life long friend Fred Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in the Spring of 2020 in Drumheller, Alberta for immediate family and close friends.
