Obituary for Chad Kenneth Raymond Merasty

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chad Kenneth Raymond Merasty on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the age of 35 years.

Born December 3, 1987, Chad was the youngest of Helen’s five children. Helen wanted a boy so badly that she would not stop having kids until she had her baby boy! As a child, Chad was known for his big eyes, mustache, and rocking mullet. He looked like a mini version of his father, Bradley Bellegarde. He loved Legos, and in kindergarten, would steal the little Lego men from school. He was also a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he would always say, “A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle!” Chad’s first love was Whitney Houston, particularly when she sang, “I Will Always Love You.” At the young age of eight, Chad also became a lifelong Toronto Raptors fan.

While Chad was a fussy kid, this one day turned him into the awesome cook that he was. He was so fussy and spoiled that when stopped in a small town to grab snacks while the family was moving from one city to the next, Chad refused the ketchup chips. With no other town for miles and already on the road, Mom wiped off all the ketchup flavour from the chips for him to eat. Go figure, ketchup chips became his favourite! Growing up, he loved to eat and cook. In later years, he always made awesome meals for his love, Ashley and her kids, Elijah, Kingston, Hazel and Chenoa. When things got tough, he always did his best to provide for them.

He was funny, cheeky, humorous, crazy, wild, and stubborn, but also loving, supportive, and handsome. In his teenage years, Chad’s handsome looks helped him grow into a little bit of a ladies’ man. As Chad got older, he wanted to settle down and start a family. In the beginning of 2014, Chad met the mother of his only daughter, Ava, though they went their separate ways after years. Chad’s world was his baby girl and only daughter, Ava. He spoiled her with his love and affection and was very protective.

Chad was always calm, cool, and collected in any stressful situation. He loved his sports, especially basketball. As a lifelong Raptor’s fan, he tried to never miss a game and would get grouchy when they lost. Chad also loved watching movies and TV, munching and just chilling. Our Chadalac liked playing cards, crib, pool, and darts.

Chad loved to laugh and smile, have drinks, and have a good time. He loved listening to music, especially old school hip-hop and independent hip-hop. Chad was always lucky, whether he was playing dice, cards, or VLTs. Most of all, Chad valued friendship; he knew who was fake and who was real. He was intuitive.

He was smart and knew where to cut corners, making high school easy. While usually the youngest in the group, Chad was fun, cool, and easy-going. Chad graduated with his sister, Nicole, from Balcarres Community High School. Excited to be an uncle to his twin nieces, Chad painted their room and bassinet. He also helped Orès and Nikki decorate the nursery and said they were lucky to have the first twin pregnancy. Chad and his sister, Nicole were very close in age and that was the glue that kept them together. They always supported and looked out for each other.

Chad leaves behind the love of his life, his daughter Ava; stepdaughter, Akira; partner Ashley Chicoose; siblings, Sheri (Frank), Heather (Warner), Lesley, Nicole (Orès), Shannon, Chance, Tyler, Brandon, and Kevin; his best cousins Dustin McLeod (DJ) and Colin Desnomie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Chad is now reunited with his mom, Helen Merasty; father, Bradley Bellegarde; brother-in-law, Jeffrey; niece, Teia; and childhood friends he met while living in Fort Qu'Appelle, Dennis, Stallone, Evan, and C.J.
