Caroline Suk
Caroline was born on January 26, 1955 to John and Nettie Suk in Edmonton, Alberta. She was a loving and generous soul, even as a young girl. As a daughter, a sister, and an auntie to eight nieces and nephews, and those that adopted her as auntie, she brought light and joy to all who were recipients of her generosity and thoughtfulness. Caroline was a loyal friend and went out of her way to make sure she was available to celebrate special moments in others’ life, even when she was facing challenging circumstances in her own life. Caroline radiated energy and joy, and yet was stoic in her outlook, never complaining even when her life became more complicated with the challenges of managing a diagnosis of cancer.
A highlight of Caroline’s life was attending Prairie Bible Institute, following in her mother’s footsteps, for a portion of her high school education. Always a learner, she went on to complete a BA in English from the University of Alberta and spent some years as a substitute teacher.
She became a solid asset to her father’s State Farm Insurance Agency, giving years of service to valued clients, growing her professional knowledge of the business. She also offered her stunning gifts of administration, connectivity and leadership as she served Mission to Ukraine, the Evangelical Church in Edmonton (formerly the First Ukrainian Baptist Church) as a Sunday school teacher, secretary and church life coordinator, and the Ukrainian Baptist Conference of Western Canada in various leadership roles. Given that the Mission to Ukraine office was across the hall from John Suk’s insurance agency, Caroline was able to align her professional and ministry calls on her life and serve for many years with purpose and impact. She enjoyed various leadership roles serving women through Stonecroft After 5 Club and loved attending the Canadian Baptist Women’s retreats.
Caroline loved travel. She made over fourteen trips to Ukraine doing the mission work she loved, encouraging pastors and leaders, mentoring, and teaching English to those who became life-long friends. She used these travel opportunities to venture to other parts of the world, enriching her life and creating many memories.
Caroline always knew Jesus, carried His love for others in her heart and displayed love in action. After working in various insurance agencies, she finished her professional life at Capital Estate Planning in Edmonton, where she was a bright light and brought joy and expertise to the team and the clients she served.
Caroline was promoted to glory at age 65, on January 22, 2021 in Calgary, Alberta, surrounded by her loving family. A generous, kind and loving soul, she bravely fought her battle with cancer until the end. Predeceased by her parents, John in 2006, and Nettie Suk in 2017, and her sister, Marianne Helen Suk in 1959. Caroline is survived by Kenneth Suk (Helen) of Calgary, Cathie Ostapchuk (Stephen) of Oakville, Colleen Korzan (Gary) of Kelowna and Kelvin Suk of Edmonton. Caroline Suk also is survived by her nephews and nieces Jordan Ostapchuk, Nate Korzan, Natasha Allen, Nicholas Suk,, Kaitlyn Korzan, Halina Ostapchuk, Kim Korzan and Chloe Korzan, who, in addition to friends all over the world, loved her dearly and will never stop missing her joy-filled presence in their lives.
