Dr. Carol Lynn Liske (nee Waltham)

Dr. Carol Lynn Liske age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27th, 2020 after battling a long-term neurodegenerative condition for the past 15 years. She is survived by her siblings, Rob, Brian, Sandra and Valerie; children, Durga (Melanie), Jared (Leah) and Ben (Jenny); and grandchildren Max, Ava and Rylan.

Mom was born November 7, 1944 in Calgary, Alberta and spent most of her life there, raising her family. She was passionate for people and their well-being; she dedicated her life to it. At the start of her career, Mom worked closely as a social worker with indigenous people in Morley, west of Calgary. She believed in community and connection and was grateful for her time there. Mom was also very focussed and tenacious. While raising three adolescent boys, she went back to school and completed a PhD in Psychology. She spent the remainder of her career working and studying in the family therapy wing at the Foothills Medical Centre.

Mom worked hard but also took time to enjoy the wonder of life. She spent many years studying meditation, including a short period of time in the early 70’s with the Maharishi Yogi. She was very passionate about her meditation practice and brought mindfulness and an open spirit to everything she did.

Mom’s greatest source of pride and joy were her three children and three grandchildren. She took great pleasure in spending time with them and watching them grow. As this became more difficult in her final years, she surrounded herself with pictures to keep everyone close.

Mom was passionate about mental health issues and dedicated her life to supporting those in need. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to contribute, either monetarily or simply with your time and empathy, to a mental health organization of your choice. At Mom’s request, there will be no formal funeral service.

We’d like to thank all those who helped Mom through this difficult battle. Her doctors, nurses, and everyone at Carewest Sarcee, thank you for your patience and compassion. To our Dad, Neil Liske, who helped care for Mom and us during this difficult time, you were our strength. Thank you.

Though we are sad to say goodbye, we know she is at peace, without pain and full of love. Rest in Peace, Mom.
