Obituary for Brian Gerard Moreau (Dooling)

Moreau, Brian G. (1957-2022)

"When (someone) dies, a library burns to the ground." ~African Proverb

It is with great shock and sorrow that the siblings of Brian Moreau announce his passing. Brian is survived by his brother, Douglas Dooling and his sister, Joan (Dooling) Bondar. All were born in Calgary. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Monica MacAlister Moreau; mother, Teresa Moreau Dooling, and father, Lloyd Dooling. As a young adult, Brian changed his surname to honour his mother, someone who easily saw the good-heartedness in our "marshmallow with ground glass coating".

Brian was a complex person not easily summed up. He was extremely well-read, and owned thousands of books. He was articulate, quick-witted, and loved comedy, salty or not. Brian listened to world music long before it was cool, and was a "walking CKUA Radio". He volunteered for many years at many places, including the Calgary Humane Society. He was immensely kind to animals, and was able to socialize several animals that had been deemed "unadoptable". It saved their lives. Brian also donated blood to the Red Cross frequently, even when he became disabled. He was the type of person who would drop what he was doing to help you, even if you didn’t deserve it.

He loved his work; he was a precise and safety-oriented Bobcat operator for fine landscaping until a repetitive strain injury ended his career. He turned to his many other interests and contributed wherever he could; he met his amazing wife, Monica at a volunteer role. His care giving personality manifested itself in his care and advocacy for her until she was taken by MS.

Brian was also plagued with several health problems throughout life, and for many years endured chronic, acute pain in his spine that raged unabated until his dying day. Indeed, the only comfort his family can take at this time is that his immense suffering is over. Brian deserved better, needed more than modern medicine is capable of, and we pray that he is at peace in eternity with his wife and other loved ones.

Out of respect for Brian's wishes, he was cremated with no service. In honour of Brian's generous spirit, please volunteer if you can, or make a donation to the charity of your choice.
