Beloved Brian Edward Duclos, 69, of Calgary, died Tuesday, December 22nd, 2020 peacefully in his home surrounded by family, after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born on January 20th,1951, to Charles Duncan Duclos and Mary Lois Duclos (née Winslow Spragge) in Montreal, QC.

Brian will be forever remembered by his devoted wife of 22 years, Denise Fay Brown; his loving children, Samantha (Mark) and Amanda; his dear sister, Lorraine; his nephew, Ryan (Claudia); his sweet grandchildren, Mikayla and Emma and grandnephew, Alexander. Brian will also be forever remembered by his extended family, dear friends and the mother of his children, Angela Bongiovanni. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Duncan and Mary Lois, and his brothers, Victor and Christopher.

Like his father and grandfather, Brian was proud to have attended Bishop’s College School, where he made many lifelong friends. He graduated from Queen’s University.

He dedicated his life to fundraising in the non-profit sector, most recently as the President of Bedrock Consulting Group. He was a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) and played key roles fundraising for the Calgary Zoo, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Strathcona Tweedsmuir School, and Bishop's College School. He was also the President of the Canadian Club of Calgary.

He held various board positions including the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations and The Association of Fundraising Professionals. He taught the next generation of fundraisers at Mount Royal University. He also brought live popular music to Banff in the 1970’s as the founder of Mountain Pass Productions.

Brian will be remembered for his optimistic, loving and kind spirit. He loved his family and friends deeply and brought joy, whimsy and humour to all encounters. He loved travelling the world with Denise and was most content on the beach with fresh seafood or body surfing in the ocean. He was an avid guitar player and singer. He was a fierce board and card game competitor. He enjoyed food and drink, especially corn on the cob and tequila. He had a special way of putting those around him at ease and helping them truly enjoy each moment.

A Celebration of Life will be held virtually on January 2nd from 2-5 PM Mountain Time. A short formal program will begin at 2PM, followed by an informal open house. Details will be shared with family, friends and on social media. We look forward to seeing those who loved and cared for Brian there to share memories and stories from his exemplary life.

Brian believed deeply in the importance of supporting the non-profit sector. He would be honoured by memorials or donations in his name. Pancreatic Cancer Action Network played an important role this last year, giving him information and hope, and is doing important research to fight Pancreatic Cancer. He also cared deeply about Bishop's College School. Please feel free to support an organization that holds a special meaning for you.
