Obituary for Brent Allan Davies
Brent Davies
February 6th, 1980 - Thursday, July 25th, 2019
Brent was born in Burnaby on February 6, 1980, a big, strong, healthy 11 lb 15 oz’er. We were all so happy to have him in our lives. He came home with us to Cloverdale and the neighborhood was never the same. He started walking at 10 months old, running a few short weeks later, and it was a mile a minute from that day on. Brent always had a huge mischievous smile on his face, which I learnt quickly to interpret as “Watch Out Something’s going to happen!!!”
Brent had a fair amount of freedom in the neighborhood where he played with the other kids – biking, street hockey, and daily walks to the park. As he got a bit older he became interested in skateboarding and soon was zooming up and down the sidewalks, and building ramps and jumps in the driveway. He also started playing baseball, at first not liking it to much but by the second year he loved it and became a very good pitcher. He even won a few championships. All through these years we would have both local and out of town visits from his cousins, uncles and aunts, friends, and Grama and Grampa. He couldn’t contain his excitement when they came to our house. On the weekends we took Brent camping, and this is where he developed his passion for fishing. Brent and his Dad would go down to Twassanen with neighbors and friends to the ocean, and fish for salmon and crabs on countless occasions, rain or shine. Brent loved to cook and at 12 years old made up his own recipe for apple pizza. Was it ever good. Later in his life he was known to prepare many delicious meals, including full turkey dinners and Chinese food, and could pull together odds and ends from the fridge and come up with something so tasty and amazing.
In 1996 Brent and his mom moved to Nelson were he finished off his last two years of high school at LV Rogers, graduating in 1998. Shortly after finishing school he moved back to the lower mainland to be with his Dad and to look for work. The oil patch was booming and through a cousin connection, Brent set out for Slave Lake Alberta. There he started working as a roughneck drilling for oil, coming back to the Kootenays and the lower mainland on days off. It was during this time that Brent had four wonderful sons, Alex, Matthew, Dallas and Aaron. Later he had a beautiful daughter Isabella and wonderful stepson Matty.
The oil patch slowed down as oil prices dropped so work was not plentiful, but Brent continued to look and always had the ability to find other work. This included construction, building roads and grain silos, and doing stucco on houses in Calgary and Red Deer, but Brent was always waiting for a call to go back to the patch. He said more that once that he felt the best, most comfortable, and where he belonged up high on a derrick in -20. Brent lived life to its fullest, loved his kids, his girlfriend Kristy, and his family. He's taught us all to follow our dreams as he did - making time to fish many of the streams, rivers and lakes through BC and Alberta. We’ve found a glimmer of peace knowing that he enjoyed so much in this life. We’ll leave you now with a saying that Brent often used. You may have heard him say it. He was always ready to help whether it was to move a heavy hideabed or furniture, help in the kitchen or open a stuck lid on a jar of pickles. As he watched and seeing that you were struggling he would say "watch yourself" and you knew you better get out of the way because he was coming in to get the job done.
