Obituary for Brenda Lee Funk (Pelchat)

Brenda Funk
March 5th, 1963 - Tuesday, May 14th, 2019

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Brenda Funk announces her passing on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. She was surrounded by her family at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary. Brenda was born in North Battleford, SK on March 5, 1963.

Brenda will always be remembered by her husband Art, her daughter Alyssa (Zach), her brother Gerald (Lynda), sisters Linda (Barry) and Val (Harry), nephew Blair (Sarah), niece Jamie (Chad), great niece Grace, and most importantly her grandson McConaughey James. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Gerry Pelchat. Brenda also leaves behind a wide circle of very dear friends and extended family from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, BC, Ontario, and all around the world.

Brenda was a great friend to all, more than any of us know. She was always a kind and generous person. She lived by example, was funny, smart, and always made time for everyone in her life. She fought the final battle of her life bravely and with class and dignity. Brenda was never alone throughout her battle. Art was always with her and even more so was Bear, her "little love bug."

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Tom Baker, in particular Dr. Patrica Tang. Art would like to thank all who visited Brenda in the past year from all over the country.

At Brenda's request there will not be a memorial service held, but instead her wish was for her family to have a day of remembrance for her at a later date.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside still waters;
He restores my soul. He leads me in right paths For His Name's sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil;
For you are with me;
Your rod and Your staff - they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, You anoint my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life. And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord My whole life long.
[Psalm 23:1-6; NRSV]

Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep - Poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

An excerpt from Winnie the Pooh:

“If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together.
There is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
But the most important thing is even if we are apart, I’ll always be with you.”
