Boyce Hedley Rice has passed away suddenly at the age 64 in Calgary, Alberta on Sunday, February 16, 2020.
Son of the late Garfield and Alfreda Mae Rice (née Butt) Boyce was born and raised in Springdale Newfoundland. He joined the military proudly serving his country for 24 years. After his retirement he went on to care for others in his second career in home care, and finally as a veteran with the Commisionaires.
Survived by his beloved daughter, Harmony; son in law, Jeff; his pride and joy, granddaughters Dakota (Colton), Sienna, and Alexis; great grandson, Killian and lifelong friend, Carol.
Boyce could often be found crisscrossing the country to spend time with his large immediate and extended family. He leaves behind brothers, Stedman (Phyllis), Desmond (Debbie), Wilfred (Dianne), Donald (Mary), Jurden (Mary), Paul (Brenda), and Ralph (Dianne); sisters, Blanche (Donald), Nina, Pauline, and Maxine; many treasured nephews and nieces, great and great-great nephew and nieces; a large amount of cousins and extended family; and friends.
He was predeceased and he is now with his parents and his beloved sisters, Georgina Milley and Phyllis Gillard; brother, George who died in infancy; brothers in law, Charles Brophy, Fredrick Gillard, and Mike Kennedy; and nieces, Natasha Roberts and Mae Upward.
Boyce was and is an important member of the Rice family. He will always be remembered for his unnumbered acts of kindness and love. His footprints shall remain on all of our hearts forever and he will forever be greatly missed.
A private family viewing will be held at Choice Memorial (105, 4715 – 13 Street NE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 10:00 am.
A Memorial Service for friends and loved ones will be held at the Father Lacombe Care Centre (270 Providence Boulevard SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 2:00 pm. Please feel free to wear his favorite color, Purple and enjoy a Tim’s Large Double Double in his honour.
The family is asking that In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Boyce’s memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation
