Obituary for Betty Kubinchak

Betty Rose Kubinchak passed away peacefully on May 29, 2021, at the age of 91 in Calgary, AB.

Betty was born on March 27, 1930, in Castor AB where she grew up on a farm along with her 5 brothers and 2 sisters. She graduated early from school at 16 and began a long career in the hospitality business, moving from Castor to Coronation where she married Harry John Kubinchak on August 19, 1950. Together they raised 5 children and owned and operated Town & Country Services Café and Garage until 1979, they then started up a landscaping business until Harry’s passing. Betty lived in a few different places over the years including Unity, Castor, Stettler, Red Deer, Olds, and Calgary. Ultimately, Coronation was always home to her which she mentioned often and with fondness.

Betty was hospitable, loved people and made friends wherever she went. She was extremely talented and crafty and could create anything with her hands. She was well known for her homemade pies and bread and was always up to trying out new things. Betty was quick witted and had an answer or comeback for every occasion and could make people laugh and draw close to her. Betty was the last of her generation and will be sadly missed by all who knew her, including her children:

Pamela Currier of Edmonton AB and her daughter Karina (Darin) Folden, Madyson and Nathan of Blackfalds AB.

Beverly (Terry) Ford of Sundre, AB and her children Shane (Amanda) Kubinchak, Chantal, Taylor and Tyler of Duchess, AB. Marshall (Kirsten) Jones, Charles and Jackson of West Kelowna, BC.

Bob ( Paula) Kubinchak of Clarkesville, Georgia, and his children Duane (Darcey) Kubinchak, Josh, Sydney and Cole of Coronation, AB. Danny (Kirstee) Kubinchak, Jayde, Danika, Romee and Cub of Medicine Hat, AB.

Janice (Brian) Shumyla of Camrose, AB, and her children Ryan (Naomi) Johnston of Red Deer, AB, and Morgan (Brant) Hallet of Edmonton, AB.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Harry on July 2, 1980, grandson Darrick Jolin on February 14, 1975, and great granddaughter Victoria Kubinchak on August 6, 2001.
