Obituary for Bernice Pasley

Bernice Pasley (nee) Horan
1948 - 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Pasley at the age of 71.

She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 47 years of marriage, John; son, Warren and his wife, Candice and their children, Nathan (7) and Grace (5); daughter, Erica and partner, Brad and their children, Jake (2) and Lila (7months); sister, Tracie Giffin and her husband, Dan; nephews, Cole and Spencer and niece, Sarah as well as numerous cousins in Sheffield, Yorkshire, Montreal and Eastern Canada.

Bernice was born to Vivienne Horan (nee Pollard) and Bernard " Barney" Francis Horan in Hackenthorpe, Sheffield, England. After marrying, Bernice and John immediately emigrated to Canada, first settling in Montreal before moving and making their new home in Calgary.

Bernice was an employee of the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel in NE Calgary. For 30 years she bravely walked to and from work through all kinds of weather, year-round, and was sure to pack a salad for lunch.

She was immensely proud of her position as Banquet Social Coordinator. She ensured that many a bride and groom, had that special day in the hotel ballroom. When she wasn't at work, Bernice spent countless hours knitting toques and mittens for the less fortunate whilst at home watching British period dramas like Downton Abbey and Jewel in the Crown. She was devoted to her Jazzercize routine and held many passes and tickets to local theater.

Her grandchildren were her jewels, spending time with them whenever she could. Baking at home, numerous Nanan and Grandpa trips to the Loose Moose, as well as market trips and strolls in Swift Current, SK.

The family wish to extend thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and care workers of Dulcina Hospice, Unit 47 and the Neurosurgery units of the Foothills Medical Centre. Also, to the team of homecare professionals for their wonderful due diligence and care of our beloved wife and mother.

Thank you also to her many friends who came to visit and sign the book throughout this difficult time. A Celebration of Bernice’s Life will be held at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel (2620 – 32 Avenue NE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, March 27, 2020 from 5:00 pm- 9:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage a donation of your choice to either: The Pumphouse Theater Calgary, The Loose Moose Theater or the Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre.
