May 4, 1954 – April 20, 2022
Bernard Matthew Well passed away on April 20, 2022 from pancreatic cancer.
Bernie was born in Calgary on May 4, 1954 to his loving parents Chaim and Rachel Well. Despite a premature and difficult birth that resulted in his being hard of hearing, Bernie was very intelligent. He became skilled at lipreading, a talent that served him well until the onset of COVID resulted in most people wearing masks. He obtained a degree in computer science from the University of Calgary before going on to a successful and satisfying career as a programmer.
Bernie was a kind individual with a great curiosity of the natural world. He kept active physically and mentally, had a great sense of humor, and travelled extensively. After retiring, he enjoyed programming for fun as well as activities such as swimming, biking and hiking.
Bernie is survived by his brother Arnold as well a wonderful group of friends and relatives who comforted and assisted him during his final illness. Thank you to the staff at the Agape Hospice for caring for Bernie with compassion and dignity.
