Obituary for Benjamin Paul Vige

Benjamin (Ben) Paul Vigé
July 14, 1983 – March 17, 2023

Benjamin Paul Vigé passed away suddenly in Calgary, Alberta on March 17, 2023, at the age of 39.

Benjamin (Ben) was born on July 14, 1983, in Eunice, Louisiana. As a child he loved playing the piano, as well as exploring the L.A. woods with alligators, snakes, and his dog, Hank. As a young man he went to school at Louisiana State University Eunice, followed by McNeese State University. He then joined the U.S. Army as a laboratory technician. Ben deployed to Iraq in 2006 where he was disappointed to miss the 3D release of Avatar. Upon his return to the States, Ben was released from Active Duty and joined the Louisiana National Guard while working at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Lafayette, La. While working with the National Guard, he deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 where he crossed paths with a Canadian that would change the trajectory of his life. Ben met and fell in love with his future wife, Bonnie. In 2015 he decided to move to Gander, Newfoundland to be with her and pursue a career as a pilot. These were some of Ben’s happiest years, spending time with his friends, iceberg hunting on “the Rock”, marrying Bonnie and having their first child, Brooklyn in 2017. In 2018 the family moved to Edmonton, Alberta at which time Ben began working for West Jet Encore, something that he was very proud of. In 2020 the family welcomed John (JD) into the mix. In 2022 they relocated to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Ben returned to Calgary, Alberta in January 2023 to attend flight training.

Ben was a fun-loving friend to many, who always brought a quick smile to everyone he met and never gave up an opportunity to tell anyone that he was an American, a pilot, and a man who loved LSU football. Ben wore LSU purple on all days that end in “y” and did not appreciate interruptions of any kind when the LSU Tigers were playing. Brooklyn will miss having someone to swing her upside down and JD loved when Daddy put him into his firetruck bed every night. He was happiest when flying, spending time with his family, and recently, cooking Gordon Ramsay style.

Benjamin will be sorely missed by his friends and family including his wife, Bonnie (MacFarlane); children, Brooklyn and JD; his father, Shirley Vige; his sister, Valerie (Vige) Guidry, brother-in-law Stephen, and nephew, Andrew. His mother-in-law, Barbara MacFarlane; siblings and spouses in law, Jill, Angus, Martin, Haili, Peter, Ashley; nieces and nephews, Malcolm, Gabrielle, Eva, and Easton will all keep Benjamin and his memory close in their hearts.

He is predeceased by his mother, Martha (Reed) Vige.

There is no memorial service scheduled at this time.
