Obituary for Barry Donald Jacks

Barry Donald Jacks
April 27, 1947 - May 10, 2022

Barry Jacks, beloved husband of Carol Jacks of Calgary, passed away at his home on May 10, 2022, at the age of 75 years.
Barry was born in Holland, Manitoba and later moved to Brandon, Manitoba, where he met the love of his life, Carol Diller and married in 1969. Barry and Carol shared 53 wonderful years together. In 1981, they moved their way west and settled in Calgary where they raised their two children, Sherry and Shawn who have also raised their families in Calgary. Barry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Anyone who crossed paths with Barry would remember his infectious laugh, easy going personality and the biggest heart. He was always a jokester, who did not sweat the small things in life, and always lived life to the fullest. A proud man of his family and grandchildren. If you were lucky enough to come by him, he made sure to always take time to share his photos and boast of his precious grandchildren.

His love of travel and RV’ing started very young with Carol on their many trips to Hawaii, and the purchase of their first tent trailer. This continued with his kids, taking them to Hawaii on many occasions, various camping trips through BC and the States, as well as numerous trips back to Clear Lake as they grew up. Barry and Carol retired in 2006 where they spent 15 years traveling the USA spending most of their time in Palm Springs in the winter and spending the summers at Pine Lake. They were the faces of the leisure campground where Barry looked after mowing the grounds and chatting it up with all the patrons of the campground, while Carol greeted them as they checked in at the entry gate.

Barry was a dedicated employee of 30 years with the Cooperative Retailing System where he spent much of his working career at Calgary Coop, a total of 18 years. All his children and grandchildren have followed in his footstep working or still working for Calgary Coop. There are still people today working at Calgary Coop who he has touched and have a special place in their heart for Barry.

Barry enjoyed the outdoors, always cooking outside hosting his friends and family at BBQ’s both at his houses and the RV. Golfing was his favorite sport both playing and watching, he had a very famous swing with a slice which he was proud of!
A life well lived full of giving and receiving love. Barry will be greatly missed, thought of often and loved always. We are all better for having the privilege of Barry in our lives.

He was the loving father of Sherry Jacks, Shawn & Julie Jacks of Calgary. He will also be lovingly remembered by his 5 granddaughters, Alyssa (Lucas Dinn), Stephanie Huck, Ashley Huck, Charlize Jacks and Keara Jacks; great-grandchild, Charlotte Dinn and siblings, Carol Ann Jacks, and Kathy Mennie (Rick).

He was predeceased his father, Milton Jacks; mother, Lois Reid and brother, Douglas Jacks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are gratefully accepted by The Heart & Stroke Foundation.

A Celebration of Life and Love on Mom & Dad’s 53 Wedding Anniversary will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 3:00 pm. Lynx Ridge Golf Club, 8 Lynx Ridge Boulevard, Calgary, AB.
