Obituary for Edie Weisbeck

Barbara Edith “Edie” Weisbeck (nee Clendennin)
October 19, 1949 - December 26, 2022

Edie passed away peacefully at Providence Care Centre surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 26, 2022 at the age of 73 years. She had been suffering with dementia for the last 10 years of her life.

Edie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Pat; her daughter, Sharilyn (Kevin); son, Tim (Amanda); grandson, Kaelan; granddaughter, Kiera; grandsons, Gabriel and Oliver; sisters, Orca, Ginny and Lucy; brothers, Russell and Phillip and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Edie was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Marj.

Edie was born in Saskatoon, SK. She attended King George Elementary School and returned in 2012 to celebrate the 100-year anniversary with many of her classmates who she had remained in close contact with over the years. She completed her high school at Bedford Road Collegiate. After high school, in order to save money to continue her education, she took a job with the new Sears store being opened in Midtown Plaza. She was assistant to the cafeteria manager. During this period, she met and married Pat in 1971. She remained at Sears until our daughter, Sharilyn, and then our son, Tim, came along. Edie was always a very caring and involved mom with her children, serving on parent council and as a leader when Sharilyn was in Brownies and Tim was in Beavers and also transporting the kids to their various sports and activities.

In 1987, the family relocated to Swift Current, SK to operate the bus depot, acting as agents for Greyhound, STC Lines and Leader Carriers. Edie handled all bookkeeping and accounting duties in addition to working the ticket and express counters. As well, she very successfully operated the confectionary-gift shop we had at the depot. All who met her at the ticket and express counter enjoyed her love of life and quick wit.

Edie loved to travel. When the kids were younger, she enjoyed camping. Greenwater Provincial Park, her favourite, as well as family trips to the Black Hills and another trailer trip to Yellowstone were fondly remembered. Some of her greatest enjoyment travelling was during our cruises, especially when we sailed together with our good friends. She even agreed to motorcycle trips on the back of our bike to the Black Hills, the Pacific Coast Highway, one trip to San Francisco and another where we flew to Texas and rented a bike for a week. All who knew her always received her infectious smile, usually accompanied by her little giggle.

Edie was the most happy when with friends and extended family. She was especially happy when around her grandchildren who adored her.

A Celebration of Edie’s Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Edie’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Calgary.
