Obituary for Barbara Nell Bishop (Ridgway-Wilson)
Barbara Bishop
October 7th, 1924 - Sunday, August 16th, 2020
Barbara passed away gently on August 16, 2020 in Calgary, Alberta. She is survived by her loving children: son, Tom and wife Michelle and daughter Megan. Her husband, Bill, predeceased her in 1998.
Barb was born on October 7, 1924 in Vancouver B.C. She was the only child of Guy and Lillian Ridgway-Wilson. Guy worked as a surveyor for the railway and as a result, Barb attended schools in Los Angeles and Vancouver before graduating in Victoria.
She met her husband Bill in Victoria and they married on Nov. 8, 1947. Hoping to start a new business in a more booming economy, they moved to Calgary where both of their children were born and raised.
Barb was one of the few working moms in Calgary at that time. In 1963 she was hired to work with Junior Achievement, Calgary. Over the course of 24 years with this non-profit organization, she mentored hundreds of students looking for a sympathetic ear.
Her marriage to her beloved Bill lasted 51 years. His passing was made softer by the arrival of her many grandchildren: David, Joshua, Esah, Erin and Kaitlin, as well as her great grandchildren: Rowan, Riley, Finn and Isaac.
She will be remembered by many personal and professional friends. Respecting her long-standing wishes, there will be no services. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Tom and Megan would like to thank the many excellent Health Care professionals for their care and compassion these past few months.
