Balbino Ramos
February 26, 1942 - December 30, 2022
Balbino Ramos, 80 years of age, of Calgary, AB passed on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Calgary Foothills Hospital surrounded by family. He was born on February 26, 1942, to Faustino Vergara Ramos and Juana Reyno Ramos in Mangaterem, Philippines.
Balbino grew up in Pangasinan, where he grew up, and attended college there, eventually serving in the Philippine Airforce (JAG). He would attain a degree in accounting. After immigrating to Canada in the mid-60’s, he married his sweetheart Felicisima (Fely) Barcena on August 26, 1967. They were inseparable. They had 2 children, Bennyfel and Bal.
Balbino worked as an accountant most of his life, but also started Phil/Can Automotive with friends and family in the 70s, as well as SOMAR Trading in the 80’s. On and off, he was active in Alberta provincial politics as a volunteer. Balbino retired as an accountant from the Canada Revenue Agency. He had many interests. He was an avid sports fan growing up playing basketball and became a hockey fan as he moved to Canada. He liked the outdoors with camping, hunting, and snowmobiling. He also took pride in DIY everything from mechanics, to building.
Balbino is survived by his wife, Fely Ramos; children, Benny Ramos and Bal Ramos; grandchildren, Brendon Ramos, Dyllan Ramos and Malayna Ramos; great-grandchildren, Theodore Ramos, and siblings, Leonor Skikiewicz, Pilar Ramirez and Juanito Ramos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Faustino and Juana and siblings, Angelina Ramos and Victor Ramos
A Memorial Service is planned on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (404 Northmount Place NW, Calgary, AB), with Father Gabriel officiating. A small reception will follow the service at the Parish Hall.
IN lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Balbino’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Calgary.
