Obituary for Arlene Sheila Krassman

Arlene Sheila Krassman (nee Wilson)
December 12,1939 to December 28, 2022

Arlene Krassman, beloved wife of Don Krassman of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the age of 83 years.

She was the loving mother of Michele Skillen (Terry Louis) of Calgary, Sean Krassman (Christianne) of Calgary and loving sister of Brian Wilson (Anja) of Airdrie, AB. Arlene is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Jessica Skillen, Kyleigh Skillen (Hudson Kunicky), Sarah Krassman & Tony Krassman, along with great-grandchildren Eira and Audrey Kunicky. She was predeceased by her parents, Allison and Mildred Wilson.

Born and raised in Calgary, AB, Arlene grew up in the Balmoral neighbourhood, attending Balmoral and Crescent Heights High schools. Arlene loved to sing and play the piano, enjoying her participation in the Crescent Heights High school’s Glee Club, especially their operettas.

Arlene met Don when they both worked for Montreal Trust Company. A budding romance ensued, leading to their marriage at Grace Presbyterian Church on September 28th, 1963. They moved into their longtime home in Dalhousie in 1968, developing strong relationships within the community over the many years they lived there. Arlene worked at the Canadian Diabetes Association and then the Canadian Cancer Society for many years, but eventually had to retire early because of increasing mobility issues related to Multiple Sclerosis. Arlene continued to always have a positive outlook on life.

Arlene valued time spent with family. Summers were spent taking camping trips, with the Okanagan Valley, BC being a favourite destination. Family trips to Hawaii and Great Britain were always fondly reminisced about by Arlene. Arlene and Don took several vacations together to the Caribbean, as well as the Cook Islands (South Pacific) and Alaska. She was very supportive of her children’s and grandchildren’s interests and their activities. She loved attending many a school concert, dance, gymnastics performances, and hockey games (Sean’s, Tony’s and the NHL Flames)!

Arlene moved into long term care at the Bow-Crest Care Centre, in Jan of 2015. She enjoyed spending time reading, painting, and participating in Bingo games offered by the recreational therapy team. Thanks go to Dr. Ramanna and the first-floor nursing staff at Bowcrest for the many years of kindness and care provided to Arlene.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Celebration of Arlene’s Life on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services (#105, 4715-13 Street NE, Calgary AB). A private Graveside Service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arlene’s memory to MS Society of Canada.
