Obituary for Allan Timothy Rowley

Allan Rowley
March 31st, 1971 - Friday, August 7th, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband and father Allan Timothy Rowley on Friday, August 7, 2020.

Allan was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan and also spent significant periods of his life in Grande Prairie and Calgary, Alberta, where he spent his final years.

As a young boy, Allan’s love for hockey developed early. He competed seriously in amateur levels until his late teen years, and eventually coached a few minor teams when his playing days were done. He was a diehard Boston Bruins fan and looked up to Bobby Orr and Cam Neely as two hockey idols. His unwavering devotion to the Bruins was so strong he shaped both of his daughters to also love the team, and routinely tested their knowledge of the players. One of Allan’s proudest moments was when he was able to lend a couple of his many Bruins jerseys to two close friends while they attended Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals at TD Garden when the visiting St. Louis Blues were in Boston.

But Allan’s love of sports wasn’t solely focused on hockey – he was also an avid NFL fan who watched every game and competed in fantasy football drafts. There were fewer places Allan would rather be on NFL game days than flipping channels across all of the games while trash-talking with many of his good friends in their annual fantasy league. In 2015 he got the thrill of a lifetime when he attended Super Bowl XLIX with a group of close friends.

Throughout his life Allan also fostered a love of the outdoors, with camping, fishing, hiking, and mountain biking among his favourite activities to do with family and friends. Allan loved being physically active, and prior to co-owning Rowlsteen Mechanical, he often rode to and from work regardless of the season. In Allan’s later years, when he had to adjust his approach to these pursuits, you could still find him riding the streets on his recumbent Catrike with his dog at his side.

Allan’s love for music and travel were also on par with his athletic lifestyle. Notable favourite bands were Beastie Boys, Tool, Alice in Chains, Pink Floyd, Primus, and Soundgarden; and his worldwide travels included Thailand, Singapore, Hawaii, and Mexico, plus various parts of the United States including Seattle, California, Oregon, Arizona, Las Vegas, and Boston.

But despite all of Allan’s passions, nothing compared to the love he had for his family and close circle of friends. A wonderful husband and father, and deeply loyal to those around him, his fantastic sense of humour and courageous spirit will forever live in the hearts of anyone who was blessed to know this gentle, caring soul.

Allan will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife (Danette) and two daughters (Aydra & Elyse), father (George), and sister Naomi (Ventura and family).

Please note the family will be holding a private celebration of life for Allan.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family would be very grateful for any donations to Allan’s Go Fund Me page.
