Obituary for Alice Kannampadathu Abraham (Pulikkal)

Alice Abraham of Calgary, Alberta passed away at 9:25 pm on November 12th, 2020 at Foothills Medical Centre, at the age of 76 years.

Alice was born on June 6, 1944 in Trisshur, India to Francis and Mariam Pulikkal. Alice attended Christian Medical College (CMCH) in India, graduating at the top of her class. Upon completion of her nursing degree, Alice worked for one year in New Delhi, upon which she was presented with an opportunity to immigrate to Canada. She arrived in Ontario, Canada in 1969. Alice married George Abraham in India on November 12, 1973, over the next six years, they welcomed the birth of their children Natasha, Dennis, and Natalia. Alice and George moved the family to Calgary, Alberta in 1982. During Alice’s long career as a Registered Nurse, she worked in many hospitals and settings and was blessed with the opportunity to care for thousands of patients in the operating room, recovery room, ICU, and CCU. Alice was a registered midwife, and taught refresher courses at Mount Royal College. Alice dedicated the final years of her career to patients in palliative care, providing comfort to her patients in their final days.

Alice was selflessly devoted to and cared for her family. She often remarked to her doctors and nurses that the best part of life is having grandchildren. Alice had an angelic singing voice and led the church choir for many years. She instilled in her children a love of arts and culture. She often remarked that the greatest joy in her life was her grandchildren. Alice was an outstanding cook, and it brought her great pleasure to feed everyone that entered her house, but most of all her grandchildren.

Alice will be greatly missed by her husband of 47 years, George and her children Natasha (Anthony), Dennis, and Natalia. Alice will also be fondly remembered by her six grandchildren, Maia, Xavier, John, Élise, Annette, and Éric. Alice is also survived by her loving sister Gracy.

Alice was predeceased by her brothers Jacob and Jose, and her sisters Rosily, Clara, Baby, and Cicily. Alice loved her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews currently residing in India, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and the United States.

Due to the current pandemic, Alice’s family have made the difficult decision to have a private, family-only ceremony to be held at Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services on Wednesday November, 18th, 2020. The service will be shared for family and friends via livestream.
