Obituary for Alan Charles McRoberts

Alan McRoberts
1948-2020
Suddenly and unexpectedly, Alan (Al) McRoberts passed away on Wednesday, November 25 2020, at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, following a heart attack at home in Banff.

Family was a top priority for Alan. Above all, he was a devoted husband, Dad, and grandfather. He was known and loved for his calm, supportive nature, his kindness, and his positive outlook.

Alan moved to the Bow Valley in 1990 to establish the Canadian Alpine Centre and Hostel in Lake Louise. He loved living in the Rockies and camping, skiing and hiking with his family. Alan spent over thirty years contributing to the communities of Banff and Lake Louise through his work in a variety of positions, most recently with Canada Post in Banff.

The past few years were difficult, after Alan developed dementia. He was lovingly cared for at home by his partner Diana, who was able to be by his side until the very end. Despite this terrible illness, Alan maintained his sense of humour throughout.

He will be deeply and truly missed by his entire family, and those who were fortunate enough to know or work with him.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan's name can be made to the Banff Canmore Community Foundation .

At Alan’s request, his brain has been donated for dementia research.

Cremation has taken place by Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services. A Celebration of Life will be planned for spring 2021.
