Obituary for Bonita Lynn Fredbjornson (Warne)

Nikala (Bonita) Fredbjornson
1946 - 2020

The Family of Nikala (Bonita) Fredbjornson are saddened to announce her passing on May 16th, 2020 at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, due to complications from Covid-19.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, Tia (Norm), Lafe (John), and Blaise (Elaine); her grandchildren, Kelton (Geena), Mikaela, Miette, Neve and Aiden, and one great grandchild, Lorelei (nickname: Rory). She is also survived by her sister, Colleen Warne. She was predeceased by one son, Xavier (Sarah).

Born in Trail BC, on October 27, 1946 and was the daughter of Nellie and Frank Warne. Nikala lived in BC and Manitoba before moving to Calgary where she lived for nearly fifty years.

Nikala was a stay at home Mum who especially enjoyed the holiday seasons of Christmas and Halloween. She took great pleasure in sending out hand-written cards for all holidays and birthdays.

Halloween was her favourite time. She enjoyed decorating the house, sending her kids trick-or-treating, and answering the door to hand out candy to the neighbourhood kids.

She really got into the spirit of Christmas with a real tree and her house decorated with many favourite ornaments, baking cookies and watching Christmas shows on TV.

She had a great love of children and always looked forward to babysitting her grandchildren.

She had a lifelong love of her pet cats who were given unique name spellings: Sally (Peppermint and Molly), Pattee (1 & 2), Dorriss Dayy, and her last cat Gent all of whom brought her much happiness. Nikala spent many happy hours reading mystery novels and watching television in particular crime shows and talk shows.

Her final year was lived at the Extendicare Hillcrest where she had many friends and participated in the group activities offered including sing-along time, birthday parties, bingo and social hour.

The family wishes to thank sincerely Dr. Chan, and all the staff at Foothills Hospitals units 54, and 64 and the palliative Care Team as well as the staff at Hillcrest especially Pat Bunting (3rd Floor Program), Randy Thomas (Recreation Therapist) and Melissa Bevan (Social Worker).

Due to the pandemic there will be no service or gathering at this time. No flowers please. If you wish, any donations made in Nikala’s memory would be appreciated to a children's charity of your choice.
