Wilfried Haensel
November 22nd, 1930 - Friday, April 12th, 2019

Wilfried Armin Haensel passed away peacefully at the Brentwood Care Centre on April 12, 2019 at age 88 after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure. He is survived by his wife Hildegard (nee Gruber), his three children: Norbert (Kathleen), Margo, and Rolf (Paula), and his five grandchildren: Marc, Ryan (Lacey), Kendrick, Emilie and Braedon.

Wilfried was born on November 22, 1930 in Marienberg, Germany. After enduring the depression and the war, Wilfried made the decision to seek the promise of a brighter future in Canada and so he sailed across the ocean in 1953 to join relatives who had already settled in Winnipeg. He started his career as a draftsman working for Western Gypsum. He married Hildegard in 1958 and three children followed in quick succession. Over the years the family enjoyed countless trips to the mountains to hike the trails and enjoy the spectacular views. Wilfried loved to paint landscapes of his favourite scenes and proudly displayed them around the house.

Wilfried retired as a senior design checker for Underwood McLellan Associates. In retirement he continued to enjoy painting, cycling, paddling his bright yellow kayak, running errands in his bright yellow Mazda, and his hundreds of records and videos. Wilfried’s life will be celebrated at a private gathering of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Calgary Humane Society.
