Obituary for Michael James Bangs

Bangs – Michael James (Jim)
December 11, 1946 – April 6, 2019

Jim was born in Deep River, Ontario and is survived by his loving wife Betty; son Michael (Colleen); and his grandchildren Aidan, Ava, Nelson, Brittany and Malakai. He will be dearly missed by his sister Bonnie, brother-in-law Bill and their children Adam and Susan Whiteside.

Jim lived each day to the fullest and was tenacious in his pursuit of sunshine, sand, time at the pool and open waters to fish in. He spent much of his career in Calgary where he served for Calgary Police Service and worked for the City of Calgary. He was also a pilot, an avid fisherman and had a nose for finding the best shrimp cocktail in any place he set foot in. Life was an adventure for Jim and he spent the last 23 years of his retired life between Mexico and Las Vegas (and many places in between) with the love of his life. When he was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, he fought the disease the way he went into every fight – with everything he had; cancer never had a stronger adversary. In the end, he was surrounded by the people who were most important to him, and he passed away knowing that he was loved. Cheers to a beautiful life.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date somewhere on a beach.
