Obituary for Ann Marie Martinez (Laurich)
Martinez, Ann Marie
Our beloved Mother, Daughter and Sister left us peacefully to join her sister Mary, after 3 years of difficult struggle and enormous suffering in her courageous effort to overcome ovarian cancer. Ann was an amazing person filled with determination, self-reliance, love of life and optimism. She was completely devoted to her sons David Martinez and Jacob Coughlan. Her family were all standouts in her eyes, especially her daughter-in-law Jan (Coughlan). Her family: parents John G. and Carol Laurich, siblings John J. Laurich (Lisa), Martha (Frank Spadafora), Matthew Laurich (Sylvia) and others gathered March 3rd to send her on her final journey. Her nieces Zoë Laurich, Jennifer Armstrong, and Ashley Ryan along with nephews Austin Laurich, Brandon Spadafora, and Anthony Spadafora already miss their Auntie Ann.
Since childhood, Ann had many interests including music, crafts, camping, and games. An avid reader, she was known to polish off a novel in a few sittings. Ann was a kind heart to everyone who sought her caring and generosity. She did volunteer work for a variety of organizations. Ann was born in Helena, Montana. She moved to Longview, Washington with her family and then to Red Deer, Alberta when she was 13 years old. Attending Red Deer College while working lead her to move to the Vancouver area for several years, attending UBC while doing accounting for various companies. She later returned to Calgary, Alberta to be closer to family and to her treasured Rocky Mountains, continuing her accounting work until she became too ill. She was an always devoted, hardworking employee, analyzing how she could contribute to the functioning of the company. Ann loved to visit new places and enjoyed her trips to Nicaragua and England. She moved to the beat to her own drum; she often enjoyed natural surroundings and exciting activities.
At Ann’s request, there will be no funeral and the family will gather later to celebrate the Fully- Lived Life of Ann.
