Obituary for Raymond Bernard Branchaud

Branchaud, Raymond Bernard

Raymond Bernard Branchaud died peacefully at the age of 60 after a brief bout of pneumonia on the morning of March 3rd 2019. He is survived by his wife Heidi (Walton) of 35 years, his sons Ron & Ben, his family Laura Branchaud, Mike Branchaud and Ann Marie Calvano (Branchaud).
Ray and Heidi met in the militia unit Governor General’s Foot Guards where he served from 1975 to 1985. The family moved out to Calgary from Ottawa in 1995. Nothing was more important to Ray than his family – everything he did was for their benefit.
Ray survived three rounds of cancer between 2001 and 2004. Despite the massive amounts of damage that the radiation treatments did to him, he continued to work in the warehouse at Old Dutch until 2015, when he retired. Ron and Ben told him over the years that they learned about commitment, dedication and personal pride from watching him over those years.
Ray was my reverse Country & Western song.
I found me a good man and he done me right.
If desired, please make a memorial donation to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. Ray was one of those guys who avoided getting into the picture. Feel free to add any photos you think his family might enjoy.

A good old-fashioned wake is planned on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Jubilee Branch 286 Royal Canadian Legion. Follow the link below for location and directions. Doors open at 1:00 and will include a short Legion Memorial Service to be followed by reverent or irreverent stories about what a great guy Ray was. There should be some dancing girls followed by a selection of ways to make some noise and have a good time.
Dress is casual – no mourning colours – and so is the day. In recognition of Ray’s lifelong commitment to unhealthy living, please consider bringing a sample of your favourite treat or some plain old junk food.
We are welcome to stick around for the Legion’s regular pub-style Saturday night.
