Obituary for Gayle Suzanne Cappon (van Abbema)

Gayle Suzanne Cappon (van Abbema)
December 11, 1960 - February 2, 2019

Gayle Suzanne (van Abbema) Cappon passed peacefully into heaven while Rod Cappon, her husband of 25 years, sat by her side on Saturday, February 2, 2019.

Gayle was born December 11,1960 to Jacob and Boukje (Anna) van Abbema in Chatham, Ontario. She is survived by her brother, John (Sharon) van Abbema and her sisters Hilda (late Frank) Smeltzer, and Marilyn (late Kelley) Morrison and more nephews and nieces. The Cappon family celebrates Gayle with Rod, and will miss their daughter-in-law and sister-in-law. They include John (late Ann) Cappon, Ken (Denise) Cappon, Linda Rayner, Evan Cappon and Gonda (Greg) Reimer. The Calgary nieces and nephews who will miss their Auntie Gayle include Rebekah, Vanessa, Caleb, Matthias (Lauren), Hannah, Jared, Ethan, Aiden, Avalon, and Miriam. Gayle’s extended stay in hospital was full of visits from her family and friends and she was surrounded by the people who love her.

Gayle’s passion for arts and crafts were channeled through her artisan gift cards “Fuzzy Face Cards”. Her heart and cheerful personality was revealed in the colours, images and composition of every project. Gifts from Gayle were often hand designed knitted items or mixed media art. Her other love was Rod and Gayle’s “fur baby” Elsie, their 6 year old miniature schnauzer. For over 20 years, Gayle worked as a Educational Assistant with the Calgary Separate School District. She was known to be kind and fair as she worked with students who needed support and she celebrated their successes with them. Upon reflection, Gayle had no regrets, loved her life, her work, creating, travelling and sharing every day of her 25 years with Rod. She faced death without fear and anticipated meeting, Jesus; her savior and salvation.

A Celebration Service will be held Sunday, February 10, 2018 at 3:00 pm at First Alliance Church, 12345 - 40th Street SE, Calgary, Alberta. We would like display Gayle’s artwork at the funeral reception and would be grateful to those who could loan any Fuzzy Face Cards for that purpose.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Camp Chamisall. (www.campchamisall.com/index.php/donations). To share and view photos, condolences and stories of Gayle, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
