Obituary for Diane Ethel Noel (Pollock)

Diane Ethel Noel
March 19, 1942 - January 29, 2019

It is with sadness that we announce the quick passing of Diane Ethel Noel in Calgary, Alberta. Diane will be lovingly remembered by her children Angela, Apryle (Mark), Allison (Rod), Andrew (Coleen) and Allan (Erica); her grandchildren Ryan, Ben, Jeremy (Kirstie), Michael (Eva), Scott, Nick (Kelsey), Leanna, Alex, and Henry; four great-grandchildren, and many others who knew her. Diane is also survived by her sisters Coral Fitzpatrick (Sid) and Shirley Gade (John), as well as numerous nieces and nephews across Canada. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Charles Noel (d. Sept 5, 2010).

Diane was born in Seaford, England and came to Canada when she was 3 years old. Diane and Bob
lived in Guelph and retired to Wiarton, Ontario. Diane loved to spend time visiting with friends and family. Most of all she cherished her time with her best friend and husband, Bob. We are thankful they will be together again now.

Mom loved camping, garage sales, playing cards, and especially enjoyed her winters in Florida with Dad. She particularly loved a good laugh even if she was the cause of it, like the time she went through the car wash with her window open and had a shower herself. Mom always shared her wisdom with us and with others whether it was wanted or not. Her sage advice and encouragement such as “you made your bed, you’ll have to lie in it” made us strong. Mom’s super strength was her bionic hearing which helped us kids develop stealth movements to be able to sneak in after curfew.

Mom’s creativity was expressed in various ways throughout her life such as singing, sewing clothes for us when we were young, turning garage sale finds into something (sometimes we weren’t sure what) and gardening. Most recently she took up painting and playing the ukulele. Her roast beef dinners and pumpkin pie were scrumptious, however her creativity in the kitchen was not always appreciated – think broiled hotdogs with strategically placed processed cheese or Jello infused with canned fruit. As kids we were thankful, we had our loving dog Sherman who covertly rescued us from being at the table until we cleared our plate, otherwise we all might still be sitting at that table today.

A Celebration of Diane's life will be held the afternoon of June 8, 2019 in Guelph, Ontario; Mom’s favorite time of year.
