Obituary for William Julian "Bill" Nicholson
NICHOLSON, William (Bill)
1934 - 2019
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death on Thursday, January 24, 2019, of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. For many years Bill fought against failing health determined to keep going in spite of his heart disease. His journey through life in this realm took him to many places. He earned his Mechanic’s License at SAIT, graduating in 1964. It was a big year for him as he had also met and married his wife of 54 years, Shirley. Together they raised their family in Edmonton.
Bill held a variety of different positions in the mechanical field prior to retiring in 2000. His side passion was restoring and rebuilding cars, a love he passed on to his sons. His prized possession was his 1929 Plymouth Coupe, an antique that he brought back to mint condition. In the early years, as a member of the Edmonton Antique Car Club, he would proudly display it at rallies. One well remembered international rally saw them drive the coupe through the mountains to Spokane and back.
Bill had a ready wit and loved to laugh. He was a loyal and loving husband who cherished his family and extended family. A good friend, he was always willing to help where he could.
Mourning the loss of this good man are his wife, Shirley; children, Todd, Greg (Holly Lock) Christie Collison (Rob); his grandchildren, Saska Nicholson, Cody Lietz (Nicole), Abbigail Lietz (Dale), Tanner, Ryder and Everette Nicholson, and great grandchild, Grayson Lietz. In addition to his immediate family, Bill is survived by his brothers, John, Lawrence (Helen), Tom (Lois) and many nieces and nephews on both Bill and Shirley’s sides of the family. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Sadie Nicholson and his sister, Eileen Reid.
We pray that he rests in peace and has joined the circle of those he loved who went before him. Bill’s passing was eased by the supportive care given by the medical, nursing and caring support staff on Unit 58 at the South Health Campus Hospital. We will be forever grateful.
