Obituary for Donald William "Don" Simpson

Donald (Don) William Simpson
August 13, 1950 - Wednesday, October 10, 2018

It’s with heavy hearts the family of Donald (Don) William Simpson passed away on October 10, 2018 with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joanne; his brother Doug and Susan; his daughter Stephanie; son-in-law Dwayne; grandchildren Baillie, Meadow, and Keagen. Don was predeceased by his parents Douglas and Irene.

Don was born on August 13, 1950 in Montreal, Quebec. Whomever crossed Don's path found him to be a caring man with many stories to tell; no matter where he went, Don knew someone. For over 30 years, Don was a faithful employee for Loblaws and made long lasting friends from many departments, including truck drivers. He was also dedicated to the Calgary Umpires Association for over 30 years. Throughout Don’s life he spent a great deal of his time at Industrial ball diamonds, McMahon Stadium cheering on the Stampeders, and going to the Calgary Stampede with his family. Because of his love for sports, Don also made great friends along the way.

Don’s family and close friends were by his side while he fought a tough battle against prostate cancer, for two years to the date of his passing. Don and his family sincerely appreciated all the doctors and nurses at the Tom Baker Cancer Center, Unit 47 and 102 at the Foothills Hospital, the staff at Palliative Homecare, and to the amazing staff, who all have angel wings, at the Dulcina Hospice.

An Open House Celebration of Don's Life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the Rundle Community Centre, 2409 - 50 Street NE, Calgary, AB.
