Obituary for Tracy Lee McEachern

Tracy Lee McEachern passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB, on May 17, 2023, at the age of 58. She was born in Edmonton, AB, on November 6, 1964, before moving to Edson in 1972 where she completed high school. She leaves behind her partner, Dave and his children Ashley and Nicole; brother, Scott; sister-in-law, Debbie; niece, Ashley (Nick) and their son Parker; and nephew, Ryan (Natalie). She will be remembered by her passion for fitness, be it biking; road or mountain, skiing; downhill or cross country, fitness classes; at a gym or on the beach, running; on the paths or on the trails, or swimming; in the pool or at the lake.

During her time growing up she was always active – whether it was playing with neighbourhood friends or organized sports. She enjoyed spending time on the farm in Saskatchewan where she balanced her time on the grain truck, tractors and in the garden, picking raspberries and strawberries. Summer vacations were at Kalamalka Lake where she demonstrated her love for water and became a strong swimmer. This skill and passion transitioned into working as a lifeguard on a part-time basis for many years. Maintaining connections was of great importance to Tracy. Sometimes it was a simple FaceTime visit with her niece or nephew or an in-person road trip across the country. Tracy also demonstrated this through many early childhood, university, and career friendships she kept to this day. If you were a friend – you were a friend for life!

She went on to receive a diploma from NAIT followed by a degree in Materials Engineering from Montana Technological University. She spent her time in Butte playing and competing on the varsity volleyball team. Living away from home for university ignited her desire to travel and explore. She then went on to travel throughout her life for business and pleasure, always making the most of the location she was in. There was rarely a year she spent without visiting a new country and she ended up setting foot in 36 countries and 31 of the 50 states in the USA.

She retired at the age of 49 and enjoyed the freedom to do what she wanted, when she wanted. She spent her time volunteering with Foothills Nordic Ski Club, YMCA Calgary, and Bragg Creek Trails. Tracy forged friendships wherever she went and created a caring network of people in the gym, on the trails and in business. Biking was her true passion and she relished in the many trips she took on both her road and mountain bikes. Tracy and her partner Dave enjoyed countless bike trips locally and overseas, many trips with friends, many with just the two of them. In the winter the bikes were packed away and exchanged for the skis. Distances to the biking or skiing location did not matter as the road trip became an integral part of the adventure. She lived by the rule: bike in the summer, ski in the winter.

Look for Me in Rainbows

Time for me to go now,
I won’t say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows,
way up in the sky.

In the morning sunrise when
all the world is new,
Just look for me and love me,
As you know I loved you.

Time for me to leave you,
I won’t say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows,
High up in the sky.
In the evening sunset,
When all the world is through,
Just look for me and love me,
And I’ll be close to you.

It won’t be forever,
The day will come and then
my loving arms will hold you,
When we meet again.

Time for us to part now,
We won’t say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows,
Shining in the sky.
Every waking moment,
And all your whole life through
just look for me and love me,
As you know I loved you.

Just wish me to be near you,
And I’ll be there with you.

In lieu of flowers, Tracy would like donations to Bragg Creek Trails.

As per Tracy’s wishes “Keep the wind in your face and watch for rainbows”.
