Obituary for Thomas John Hewton-Waters

Thomas Hewton-Waters
August 16, 1988 - October 10, 2020

No words can do justice to the incredible person that the world lost on October 10, 2020, when Thomas Hewton-Waters passed away in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 32. He was born in Victoria and lived in several parts of British Columbia with his sister Natalie and parents John and Sue while growing up. His family moved to Calgary in 2004 where he spent the rest of his life.

He was a passionate and talented hockey player and golfer and was dedicated to both sports throughout his life. Following in his Dad’s footsteps, Thomas earned a degree in Electrical Engineering and graduated with distinction in 2011.

Thomas met his wife Kristin at the company they worked at together and were a part of each other’s lives for almost seven years. The two of them were married on a snowy night February 29, 2020 in an intimate setting where they declared their love to each other in front of immediate family. Their fur baby, Harley was adopted two years ago, and he excitedly brought a new level of caring and joy to both of them. It is very special knowing Thomas was able to enjoy cuddles and laughs with Harley during his last few years.

Thomas faced his illness with his characteristic strength, poise, kindness, and humor. He became a favourite at the hospital for his optimism and good manners. Even during his darkest days, he would greet visitors and hospital staff with a smile and was quick to ask how your day was. Kristin was a phenomenal support and source of comfort to him throughout their years together and stayed by Thomas’ side, day and night until the very end.

Thomas will always be remembered by all of the people whose lives he touched and made better forever - his wife Kristin, his loving family of parents John and Sue, sister Natalie, his extended family, including Nana Barb, Auntie Angela and Uncle Adrian, and his large network of wonderful friends. Gone but never forgotten. We love you Thomas and look forward to the day when we meet again.

Our sincerest heartfelt thank you goes out to the many people who directly and indirectly touched all of our lives during this most difficult of times. To all the staff, doctors, nurses and support staff who worked tirelessly taking care of Thomas and our family during these unprecedented times. To friends and family who continued their visits and support, helped with appointments and were there to lift us up. To the most amazing support and care provided to Harley by the wonderful folks at Dawg Tired Caine Wellness Center.

Those who so desire may make donations in memory of Thomas to the Alberta Cancer Foundation at https://www.albertacancer.ca/donate/. In light of COVID, a celebration of life will be held for close friends and family in 2021.
