Obituary for Stanley Alan Morningstar

MORNINGSTAR, Stanley Alan (Al)
July 25, 1934 – April 30, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Al Morningstar mourns his passing on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

Al was born in Petrolia, Ontario, and spent most of his childhood in Forest, Ontario. He moved to Alberta in 1980 where he was lucky enough to meet and romance his forever sweetie, Sue. Though Al tolerated being in Alberta, his heart remained in Ontario where everything got better with each telling.

Al worked in sales most of his life and was by nature charming and charismatic. He was the neighbourhood fellow that you could count on for sharing the party he might be carrying in the basket of his bicycle.

Al loved the adventures that a Sunday drive might bring and taught his children that sometimes the journey is more important than the destination. He loved gadgets and would hoot in delight when gifted with a newfangled thingamajig. Al believed that the key to longevity was a glass of red wine, preparation like a boy scout, and not giving two hoots what other people think of you. Along that vein, Al gave us the reminder that the world is full of stupid people, it’s best not to be one of them.

Al loved a good bargain and would hunt through the weekly flyers to plan his shopping in a way that netted him the biggest deals. He was a collector of great deals and often swiped up many of one thing provided the price was right. Al taught us that joy can be found in the simple things in life: the perfect prize for your sweetie, a good fire (even if it’s just the fireplace channel), a classic Christmas movie, building Lego with a small child, and of course nothing beats the loyalty of a good dog.

Al is lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Sue Morningstar. His children Jeff, Jenny, and Nancy, as well as Sue’s two sons who he raised without hesitation, Steven and James. He is remembered as a loving curmudgeon by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is missed by his last best friend and dog, Billy. He was predeceased by his parents Stanley & Isla, his brother Bob, his mother-in-law Dora, who he lovingly referred to as the “old gal”, his brother-in-law and dear friend Johnny Boudreaux, and his sister-in-law June Boudreaux. Al taught us through his friendships that you don’t have to agree with everything another person believes, you can just respect them. He believed that family is bigger than bloodlines, it’s about the people you choose to love in your journey.

A Private Celebration of Al’s Life will be held for the family at a later date. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Al, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
