Obituary for Shirley Beverlay Canfield (Hollings)

A Wonderful Life Remembered

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Merril (Ian) and Colleen (John); her son, Roger (Sarah), and her four grandchildren, Taylor, Matt, Sebastian and Tom.

From the beginning of life to the end, Shirley lived her life with her dogs. She was introduced to animals from her Grandmother, and mother. and they have been forever in the family. Shirley and her many Terrier friends were active in the Alberta dog show world in the 1970’s. Her show outfits were legendary, from hotpants, mini skirts, to flowing skirts with colorful hats. She was a fierce competitor.

Shirley led a hard working life, but always found time to pursue passions she loved. She was a successful actress and appeared in many local Agatha Christie plays. She was in a Craft Canada commercial, and a favorite line from that stint was “It’s not enough”, which family and neighbors regularly imitated to her, in their best English accent. She loved astrology, which lead her to “reading numbers”, which she did for friends regularly.

Mostly, Shirley spent a full life surrounded by her children and her Terriers She was so very proud of her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments, always being supportive of all their decisions and challenges.

As she aged, her passions continued, and she was a regular spectator at the local dog shows. She loved being a part of the dog community.

Shirley’s daily life was full of challenges, but her journey was truly remarkable, with her humor, positivity and love of family and friends, she will be loved and remembered always.
