Obituary for Sharilyn "Shari" Murray

Sharilyn “Shari” Murray, age 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Shari was born on April 12, 1951 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and adopted by Evelyn and James Murray. She married Alan Torn in 1998.

Shari was a Registered Nurse. She worked in hospitals in Winnipeg, Calgary and Houston, Texas. Her last years of nursing were spent specializing in wound care and home health care.

Shari was a strong patient advocate and thoroughly enjoyed her career as a Registered Nurse. However, her real love was traveling. Shari and Alan enjoyed over 25 cruises. They sailed the Caribbean to the South Pacific, Hawaii, and even a trip around New Zealand. They had a cruise planned for a tour around South America, but due to Covid 19, that trip had to be canceled.

She and Alan made a number of trips to Europe with favorite stops in England, Scotland, Spain, France, Italy and Rome. They made several trips to Australia, and even went on an African Safari.

Closer to home, Florida was a favorite destination for Shari. She and Alan frequently escaped the cold winters at their time-share condo on Marco Island. Weston, Naples and South Beach were also special places Shari enjoyed visiting while there.

Shari loved to cook and Al loved to eat, so this really worked out well. Shari was always looking for new recipes to try, and often sought out opportunities to participate in cooking classes. During their travels, Shari regularly scheduled “food tours” with the most memorable being those in Hawaii and Australia.

Shari enjoyed life and always expressed gratitude for the magnificent places she saw and the wonderful friends she made along the way.

Shari is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. She is survived by her husband, Alan Torn; stepson, Michael Torn and his wife, Betsy, and granddaughter, Hannah Hartman. She is also survived by multiple Murray family members in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
